Wizkid and Asake release 'REAL, Vol. 1' EP

The arrival of REAL, Vol. 1, is a cultural state of the union for Afrobeats in 2026. After years of teasing fans with the collaborative gem MMS and the recent chart-dominating Jogodo, Wizkid and Asake have finally consolidated their chemistry into a focused four-track EP. The project represents a bridge between two definitive eras of the genre: the refined, global polish of Wizkid’s Made In Lagos legacy and the high-octane, Fuji-infused street energy that has made Asake an international phenomenon. Together, they create an expensive and accessible sound, satisfying the refined tastes of the penthouse while staying rooted in the pulse of the Lagos streets.

Across the four tracks, Turbulence, Jogodo, Iskolodo, and Alaye, the duo explores a sonic palette that is increasingly being dubbed “High-Luxe Amapiano.” Produced largely by Magicsticks, the EP utilizes sophisticated log-drum arrangements, lush strings, and brass sections that elevate the tracks above standard club fare. On the opener, Turbulence, the pair navigate themes of fame and the chaotic nature of life at the top, while Iskolodo serves as a masterclass in melodic phrasing, with Wizkid’s airy delivery perfectly balancing Asake’s textured, choral-style vocals.

Lyrically, the EP is a celebration of the “Real” lifestyle, a title that reflects their mutual respect and shared origins in Surulere and Lagos Island. There is a sense of victory throughout the project, they aren’t singing about the struggle to make it, but rather the grace required to sustain success. The language is a rhythmic tapestry of Yoruba and Pidgin, delivered with a casual confidence that suggests these two artists are currently operating in a creative lane of their own. It is a project that prioritizes vibe and atmosphere over aggressive chart-chasing, yet it is inevitably destined for the top of every major playlist.

Ultimately, REAL, Vol. 1 sets a high bar for the collaborative projects expected throughout the year. It proves that when superpowers align without ego, the result is a timeless addition to the Afrobeats canon. The EP serves as a testament to the genre’s growth, moving away from solitary dominance toward a more unified, collaborative front. For fans of both artists, this is the definitive soundtrack of 2026, a glistening heat check that confirms Starboy and Mr. Money are, quite simply, the standard.
