TxC, Davido, Zlatan, Shoday, Scotts Maphuma & Al Xapo unite for 'Nakupenda'

Nakupenda is less a single and more a continental summit, bringing together two of Africa’s most potent musical forces: the South African Amapiano duo TxC and the Nigerian Afrobeats titans Davido and Zlatan, alongside rising star Shoday. The title itself, Swahili for “I love you”, hints at the track’s universal appeal, designed to bridge the language and stylistic gaps between West and Southern Africa. It is a collaboration built on star power, with TxC providing the irresistible, pulsating rhythm and the Nigerian heavyweights supplying the charismatic vocals.

The core of Nakupenda is a relentless Amapiano beat, characterised by the signature log drum percussion, hypnotic synth loops, and deep basslines that TxC has perfected. However, the track avoids being a pure genre exercise by incorporating Nigerian elements. Davido’s signature melodic confidence opens the track, his voice instantly lending global star power. Zlatan then injects the raw, street-certified energy and witty slang he is famous for. The infusion of these Afrobeats vocal styles over the Amapiano infrastructure creates a powerful hybrid sound that is specifically engineered for pan-African dancefloors, proving that the synergy between the two sonic giants of the continent is stronger than ever.

What makes Nakupenda work is the chemistry among the collaborators. TxC ensures the groove never lets up, maintaining a high-octane energy throughout the entire runtime. Davido delivers a smooth and melodic verse, serving as the international hook. Zlatan’s performance is a burst of joyful energy, while Shoday’s inclusion hints at a strategic passing of the torch, connecting the established superstars to the next generation of hitmakers. Each artist occupies their distinct sonic space, yet the track flows seamlessly, avoiding the common trap of sounding like a patchwork of features hastily glued together.

Nakupenda is a defining example of the evolution of Afrodance music in 2025. It demonstrates the complete dismantling of old genre silos, where Amapiano is no longer confined to Pretoria and Afrobeats is no longer confined to Lagos. The song is a truly global product, engineered to dominate club sets from Johannesburg to London to New York. It’s a track that demands movement, a rhythmic declaration of love and life that will undoubtedly be one of the heaviest additions to the festive season’s soundtrack, showcasing the power that arises when Africa’s giants collaborate.
