Gyakie Comes Into The Light With Debut Album “After Midnight”

Ghanaian singer-songwriter Gyakie has released her highly anticipated debut album, After Midnight — a 17-track odyssey of vulnerability, healing, identity, and self-love that cements her status as one of Africa’s most compelling voices.

Known for her seamless blend of Afro-R&B, highlife, and alternative influences, Gyakie steps into a new era with this project, opening her inner world to listeners with a depth and honesty unlike anything she has shared before. The album marks her evolution from a young girl with music in her blood to an artist fully stepping into her power.

Daughter of Ghanaian highlife legend Nana Acheampong, Gyakie carries a rich musical heritage — yet After Midnight is distinctly her own statement. Shaped in the quiet mystery of the night, it reflects her most intimate thoughts, emotions, and dreams.

“Almost all the songs on the album were recorded after midnight,” Gyakie reveals. “It is within those hours that I find my best inspiration to write. The peace and quiet, the sounds of birds, the serenity — everything about that time fuels my creativity.”

The project was introduced with a cinematic narrative trailer directed by Alex Piper (Rema, Travis Scott, Wizkid, Skepta), featuring the album’s opening Intro track. It includes previously released singles Sankofa and Unconditional, which offered early glimpses into the emotional range of the project — from aching honesty to cultural pride to spiritual surrender.

After Midnight also showcases Gyakie’s collaborative spirit, bringing together a stellar lineup of global talent including 6LACK, Kojey Radical, Omar Sterling, Headie One, Shatta Wale, and Young Jonn. The result is a convergence of cultures that underscores the universality of music and its power to unite.

In one of the album’s most poignant moments, Gyakie samples her father on Y2K Luv ft. Omar Sterling, creating a bridge between generations and honoring her family’s enduring contribution to Ghanaian music.

Across 17 tracks, Gyakie crafts a rich sonic tapestry — from late-night reflections and intimate prayers to sweeping love ballads and amapiano-driven party anthems. Her sound moves fluidly between slow-burning soul, rhythmic highlife, and contemporary Afro-fusion, all anchored by her unmistakable voice and lyrical storytelling.

“This album is about becoming,” Gyakie shares. “It’s about embracing all the versions of myself — the soft parts, the strong parts, the past, the present, and the dreams I’m chasing. I hope people find pieces of themselves in these songs.”

With After Midnight, Gyakie has created more than just an album — she has delivered a deeply personal soundtrack to the moments that shape us when the world goes quiet, and the heart speaks loudest.
