Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Kaestyle, born Kelvin Ibinabo Oriye, has unveiled his latest EP, ROOKIES Don’t Sound This Good, released via KeyQaad Records. This three-track project follows his 2024 single Forever and his 2022 debut EP Kae’s Study, marking a bold statement from the Port Harcourt native who’s been steadily rising since his 2021 breakout with Blem. Signed to KeyQaad alongside stars like Omah Lay, Kaestyle uses this EP to assert his place among Nigeria’s elite, especially after a notable mention at The Headies 2025, where he hinted at moving past the “rookie” label with a confident nod to his artistry.
The EP kicks off with Chineke, a breezy opener featuring emerging talent Starsamm. Kaestyle playfully confesses his overwhelming love interest, weaving a narrative so intense that only divine intervention—Chineke (God in Igbo)—can save him. The track’s light, melodic vibe sets a relaxed tone, showcasing his ability to blend emotional depth with infectious rhythms. The title track, Rookies Don’t Sound This Good, serves as the EP’s centrepiece, delivering a swaggering declaration of dominance with Kaestyle’s versatile vocals and production that fuses R&B, pop, and Afrobeats. Fans have praised its head-nodding beats, with some calling it a subtle sub at The Headies, suggesting Kaestyle’s ready to outshine his peers. The EP closes with How Much, a club-ready anthem that highlights his sultry delivery and street-smart lyricism, already gaining traction for its dancefloor potential.
Kaestyle’s evolution shines through in this project, drawing from influences like 2Baba, Drake, and Wande Coal, honed during his music degree at the University of Port Harcourt. His ability to rap and sing with equal prowess, as seen in past hits like My Dealer with Omah Lay, is evident here, with the EP’s cohesive sound reflecting his Rivers State roots and global ambitions. The project’s release aligns with Kaestyle’s recognition as an Apple Music artist to watch in 2025, reinforcing his trajectory toward mainstream success while staying true to his innovative style. Rookies Don’t Sound This Good is a testament to Kaestyle’s growth, positioning him as a force in Afrobeats with a sound that defies his rookie status.
