Femi Kuti To Release Eleventh Studio Album “Journey Through Life”

Multiple Grammy-nominated Afrobeat icon Femi Anikulapo-Kuti will release his highly anticipated eleventh studio album, Journey Through Life, on April 25, 2025. The announcement follows the successful rollout of three lead singles—Politics Don Expose Dem (November), After 24 Years (February), and Oga Doctor (March)—which have already set the tone for one of the most politically resonant and musically expansive releases of his career.

The ten-track album delivers Femi’s unmistakable sonic palette—pulsating polyrhythms, horn-driven melodies, and searing social commentary—hallmarks of a career that has spanned over four decades and redefined the Afrobeat genre for a global audience. Tracks such as Corruption Na Stealing, Think My People Think, and Chop and Run affirm his enduring role as both musical innovator and outspoken advocate for justice.

“Journey Through Life represents my unwavering commitment to the Afrobeat tradition as a weapon against injustice,” says Femi Kuti. “These songs continue the fight my father began—confronting systems of oppression with rhythm, truth, and spirit.”

As the eldest son of Afrobeat founder Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Femi has carved a singular path—expanding Afrobeat’s reach while honouring its radical roots. Since his 1989 debut No Cause For Alarm, Femi has pushed the genre forward with fearless experimentation, infusing it with elements of jazz, funk, and indigenous Nigerian music to shape a progressive Afrobeat sound uniquely his own.

His critically acclaimed catalogue includes landmark albums such as Shoki Shoki (1998), Fight to Win (2001), Day by Day (2008), No Place for My Dream (2013), and Stop the Hate (2021). With six Grammy nominations to his name, Femi Kuti remains one of Africa’s most vital and globally respected musical voices.

Renowned for his virtuosic saxophone playing and electrifying live performances, Femi continues to challenge authority, expose injustice, and uplift communities through his art. His lyrics tackle urgent issues—government corruption, systemic inequality, and the everyday struggles of Nigerians—while celebrating cultural pride and resilience.

Femi’s extensive collaborations with international artists including Coldplay, Common, Mos Def, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, have brought Afrobeat to new audiences, while his work with Positive Force, his long-standing band, has anchored the genre in authenticity and grassroots power.

Based on the strength of the album’s singles, Journey Through Life is shaping up to be a musical statement of intent and a bold meditation on contemporary Nigeria. Politics Don Expose Dem delivers a sharp indictment of political manipulation through ethnic and religious fault lines, while “After 24 Years” blends infectious groove with reflective lyricism.

To mark the release, Femi Kuti will host an exclusive album listening session and media briefing on April 27, 2025, at the legendary New Afrika Shrine in Lagos. The event will offer media professionals and invited guests an intimate first listen to the album and a rare opportunity to engage with one of Africa’s most revered musical pioneers.
