Boy Spyce and Jeriq combine forces for 'Achalugo'

Nigerian artists Boy Spyce and Jeriq have teamed up for their new single Achalugo, via Mavin Records. Boy Spyce, under Mavin’s roster, known for his soulful Afrobeat sound, joins forces with Jeriq, the Iyoo Cartel CEO and a renowned rapper, to deliver a track that’s already generating significant buzz. The single, produced by Madd Thing, marks Boy Spyce’s second release of 2025, following I’ll Be There, and showcases his ongoing evolution while introducing Jeriq’s gritty, culturally rich rap style to a broader audience.

Achalugo—a term that has gained traction on social media for celebrating a woman’s radiant beauty—blends Afrobeats with highlife elements, paying homage to Igbo cultural roots. The song opens with a vibrant chorus, “Achalu Achalu, Go go, Go go, Koko below low, Baby dance iyo,” setting an infectious tone that invites listeners to move. Boy Spyce’s vocal finesse shines as he sings about admiration and devotion, with lines like “Look into my eyes, Tell me what you see, Shey na paradise, Do you see the 7 seas?” Jeriq complements this with a distinctive verse in his signature English-Igbo mix, rapping, “Asanwa okacha na abia na mma (Achalugo), Ada Ada maka gi the boy Ada go ada (Achalugo),” celebrating natural beauty and pledging loyalty. The track’s emotional depth is amplified by its production, featuring rhythmic drums and melodic highlife influences that create a captivating soundscape.

Boy Spyce, born Ugbekile David Osemeke in Lagos and hailing from Benin City, brings his reflective songwriting to the table, a skill honed since his early days covering songs online. Jeriq, known for his raw, street-inspired rap, adds a dynamic contrast, fresh off his own releases like My Bro with Phyno in 2023. With Achalugo poised to dominate playlists and spark TikTok dance challenges, this collaboration highlights the versatility of both artists, blending Mavin’s polished Afrobeats sound with Jeriq’s indigenous rap flair, and setting the stage for what’s next in their evolving careers.
