Joeboy Embraces Freedom and Self-Discovery on “Viva Lavida”

Joeboy returns with Viva Lavida, his highly anticipated third studio album, released under his Young Legend imprint in partnership with Warner Music Africa. More than just a collection of songs, Viva Lavida—which translates to “Live Life”—is a declaration of self-awareness, resilience, and the pursuit of freedom in an unpredictable world.

The album’s arrival is marked by the striking visuals for its focus track, Free Of Charge, featuring Nigerian rap icon Olamidé. Set against a backdrop of contrasting landscapes, the video radiates opulence and energy, mirroring the song’s theme of indulgence and devotion. The project also includes standout singles like the soulful Taxi Driver, the reflective SMH, the heartfelt Adenuga featuring Qing Madi, and the globally resonant Osadebe.

Joeboy approaches this album with a clear philosophy: “At the end of the day, life is unpredictable, and bad times are inevitable, but the one thing you are in control of is how you react and live. I choose to live free. No matter how many times I get my heart broken, no matter whether I succeed or fail in life and love, Viva Lavida!”

Musically, Viva Lavida is as diverse as Joeboy’s artistic evolution. From the introspective opener Innocent to the dance-ready Abena, the album blends Afrobeats, R&B, and soul with seamless finesse. Streets Are Lonely showcases his hypnotic harmonies, while the viral hit Taxi Driver captures the fleeting connections of city life. SMH, crafted with longtime collaborator Tempoe, adds depth with its introspective lyricism, while Magdalene and Sunset (featuring Brazilian singer Elana Dara) offer softer, melody-driven moments.

With Viva Lavida, Joeboy cements himself as an artist unafraid to explore love, loss, and liberation, all while delivering the rich, emotive sound that has made him a global force.
