Tems Joins Ownership Group of MLS side, San Diego FC

    What?

MLS side, San Diego FC (SDFC) has announced that Tems, the 2x GRAMMY® Award-winning, Oscar-nominated Nigerian artist, is joining the Club’s ownership group through her company, The Leading Vibe. As a Club Partner, Tems will contribute her creative vision and commitment to community empowerment.

    When?

The announcement was made today, marking a significant milestone for San Diego FC as it continues to build a diverse and influential ownership group.

    How?

Tems is joining SDFC in partnership with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm. Alongside Tems, Pave Investments Chairman Tunde Folawiyo and Founding Director Kwamena Afful will also become part of the Club’s ownership group. This collaboration aligns with SDFC’s mission and the Right to Dream Academy, an initiative focused on creating opportunities for young talent globally.

    Why is this important?

Against the backdrop of Lionel Messi’s transfer to Inter Miami FC, next year’s World Cup in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, football is primed for an explosion Stateside. This move helps bridge music, culture, and football allowing Tems to build influence that extends beyond music and connects to the wider football subculture. It also forms a new channel through which Nigerian entertainers can leverage their increased popularity and access in a wider cultural context.

The current roster of SDFC Club Partners, includes Issa Rae, Juan Mata, Jocko Willink, and Manny Machado, bringing more African representation into the sports industry.

    Quotes

Tom Penn, CEO of San Diego FC

Tems is an extraordinary artist and cultural force worldwide. Her passion for empowering the next generation aligns perfectly with our mission. We look forward to building strong connections between music and football, uniting communities through culture and sport.

    Tems, SDFC Club Partner

I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group. Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I’m excited to be part of a Club that celebrates creativity, culture, and community.
