Darkoo and Ruger join energy with 'Solar'

British-Nigerian artist Darkoo and the “Blown Boy” Ruger have set the airwaves alight with their high-octane collaboration, Solar. The song is impressive in blending the gritty energy of UK drill-fusion with the melodic, infectious spirit of Afrobeats. The single follows Darkoo’s streak of high-profile features and Ruger’s continued dominance as one of the most consistent hitmakers in the Nigerian new school.

In Solar, Darkoo opens the track with her usual smooth, deep-toned delivery, cleverly sampling nostalgic hits like Wande Coal’s Pere and 50 Cent’s In Da Club. The blend of the early 2000s influence with 2026 production creates a familiar and futuristic sound. Ruger enters with his unmistakable vocal texture, adding a layer of playfulness and vocal agility that has become his trademark. The chemistry between the two is palpable, sounding less like a label-mandated link-up and more like a genuine studio freestyle that evolved into a summer anthem.

The production is sleek and rhythmic, designed specifically for the transition from the club to the festival stage. Lyrically, the song revolves around themes of attraction and confidence, with both artists trading verses that celebrate their rising status and the solar energy they bring to the industry. It is a track that reinforces Darkoo’s versatility as an artist who can bridge the gap between London and Lagos effortlessly.

Released under Black Pearl Music, Solar is already making significant waves on DSP playlists. It marks a strong first quarter for both artists, signalling that their creative partnership is one of the most effective in recent memory. For Ruger, it’s another feather in his cap as he continues to push the Ruger-verse into more international territories alongside his UK counterpart.
