Kunmie returns with new single 'Julie'

Fresh off the massive viral success of Arike and his Before We Became Strangers EP, Afro-soul sensation Kunmie returns with Julie. The song further cements his status as a master of the lover boy aesthetic. While his previous songs focused on the honeymoon phase of romance, Julie explores a more nuanced, rhythmic side of attraction, blending his signature Yoruba-inflected melodies with a contemporary, uptempo Afro-fusion bounce.

Julie is characterized by Kunmie’s distinctive, airy vocal delivery that has already earned him millions of monthly listeners. The track tells the story of a captivating, perhaps slightly elusive woman, with Kunmie using his songwriting to paint a vivid picture of longing and fascination. It retains the vulnerability that made him a TikTok favourite but introduces a more sophisticated production style that is clearly aimed at both late-night radio and dancefloors.

The song’s strength lies in its simplicity and the “KunmieVerse” atmosphere it builds. Following his earlier 2026 releases like Solace, Julie feels like a natural evolution, stepping out from the stripped-back, acoustic-leaning soul into a fuller, more textured sound. The catchy chorus and infectious hook demonstrate his growing confidence as a pop songwriter, proving he can deliver radio-ready hits without sacrificing the emotional depth his fans have come to expect.

As Kunmie continues to rise through the ranks of the “Next Up” generation, Julie serves as a perfect entry point for new listeners. It showcases an artist who is comfortable in his skin, moving away from the viral sensation label toward becoming a mainstay in the Afrobeats scene. With this release, Kunmie isn’t just chasing another trend, he is refining a soulful, romantic sound that is uniquely his own.
