Cheque Returns With “Desperado” — A Sonic Blueprint For The Relentless Dreamer

Cheque Returns With “Desperado” — A Sonic Blueprint For The Relentless Dreamer

After the smooth, swagger-filled energy of Bad Boy in August, Nigerian hitmaker Cheque returns with his second release of the year, Desperado. The record captures the hunger, grit, and divine ambition of a generation that refuses to settle.

Built on a blend of hard-hitting Afro-fusion drums and lush, melodic layers, Desperado finds Cheque in peak form, confident, daring, and unshakably focused. “God bless my hustle / Never settle,” he chants, distilling his ethos into a mantra for the relentless dreamer.

Speaking about the single, Cheque describes Desperado as “the anthem for anyone chasing greatness, no matter the odds.” It’s the soundtrack to late nights and bold dreams, a celebration of persistence even when the world doubts your shine.

From the artist who delivered hits like Zoom and LOML, this new single pushes Cheque’s sonic boundaries further. He fuses smooth lyricism with futuristic production that exudes ambition, luxury, and freedom, music for visionaries who move fast but never forget to savor each victory.

Akanbi Bamidele Brett, popularly known as Cheque or Superboy Cheque, is a Nigerian singer, rapper, and songwriter born on March 23, 1995, in Okitipupa, Ondo State. Raised in Ondo Town, he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where his musical journey began under the stage name Kyle B. He honed his craft through gospel hip-hop and freestyle sessions that laid the foundation for his artistry today.

In 2019, Cheque caught the attention of industry heavyweight Phyno and signed to Penthauze Music, releasing his breakout EP Razor in 2020, which featured the smash hit “Zoom.” Since then, he has evolved a distinctive sound, a seamless fusion of trap, rap, and afro-pop that continues to blur genre lines and expand his audience across Africa.

Now entering a new phase of independence, Cheque stands as one of Nigeria’s most promising and forward-thinking artists, defined by intelligent wordplay, melodic mastery, and an ever-evolving creative vision.
