Dave drops introspective third album 'The Boy Who Played the Harp'

British-Nigerian rapper Dave has released his third studio album, The Boy Who Played the Harp, through Neighbourhood Recordings, serving as a follow-up to We’re All Alone in This Together (2021). It features guest appearances from James Blake, Jim Legxacy, Kano, and Tems.

The album’s title alludes to the Book of Samuel in the Bible (1 Samuel 16:14–23), where Saul summoned a young, brave shepherd, David, to play the harp to soothe him as he was being troubled by evil spirits.

The Boy Who Played the Harp feels heavier and quieter than anything Dave has made, with James Blake’s arrangements emphasizing empty space, Tems bringing warmth, Kano offering a mentor’s calm, and Jim Legxacy’s melodic instincts echoing in the corners. “175 Months” turns a prayer into rap theater; “Fairchild” confronts gendered violence with brutal clarity; “Chapter 16” is a rare intergenerational dialogue.

The 10-track album explores themes of faith, identity, and artistry, balancing vulnerability with mastery. Dave has announced a 14-date arena tour around the UK and Europe next Spring to celebrate the album’s release.
