Jomapel Yankee heats up the summer with “Hotter Than” — Surpassing 500,000 streams

Known for mixing Caribbean swagger with West African grooves, Sierra Leonean artist Jomapel Yankee is back—and hotter than ever. His latest single, ‘Hotter Than’, released on May 23, has struck a resonant chord with listeners, amassing over 500,000 streams across Spotify, Apple Music, and Audiomack within its first six weeks. It’s a bold, body-moving ode to confidence, desire, and the kind of woman who walks into a room and makes the whole world pause.

Yankee’s evolution has been a slow burn—shaped by time, travel, and an ever-growing love for sound. He began as a rapper, sharpening his pen and delivery between 2009 and 2012, before stepping fully into the spotlight. In 2014, a move to South Africa opened new creative doors, leading to collaborations with local DJs and producers in the Afro-house scene. By 2018, his focus had shifted again—this time to Afrobeats, where he found his voice by working with producers from across the continent. The result? A rich, cross-continental catalogue that blends pulse, presence, and personal history. “It’s been a long time coming,” he says.

Now, Yankee is setting his sights on Nigeria’s vibrant music scene—and making steady headway. As a Sierra Leonean artist, he’s building bridges and breaking boundaries, one song at a time. With a growing fanbase in Lagos and radio play creeping into key playlists, he’s carving out a space in the world’s Afrobeats capital without compromising his roots.

Produced by Lagos-based hitmaker Jhay2unez (whose credits include Seyi Vibez, Lil Kesh, and Young John), Hotter Than pulses with Afro-pop heat. But at its core, it’s a tribute. “She’s the hottest woman in the building. She knows it. And I want every woman who hears this to feel like she’s that woman,” Yankee says. The result is sleek, sexy, and empowering—an anthem for anyone who’s ever second-guessed themselves in front of a mirror. “If you’re feeling low or insecure, this song is for you. It’s meant to pull you out of that,” he says.

While Yankee thrives on the rush of live performance, ‘Hotter Than’ channels that same energy into every second. It’s the kind of track that loops easily, lingers in your bones, and leaves you walking taller, bolder, and unapologetically yourself.
