Tiwa Savage Leans Into R&B Roots With “You 4 Me”

Singer, songwriter,  Tiwa Savage enters her long-awaited R&B era with You 4 Me, the sultry new single from her forthcoming fourth studio album, This One Is Personal. Produced by Mystro, You 4 Me puts a fresh spin on Tamia’s ’90s classic So Into You, wrapping it in a smooth, contemporary production that sees her reflect on the rush of falling in love. Here, she embraces the R&B tradition she’s long admired. “I’m a ’90s R&B girl at heart,” she states, and on You 4 Me, you can hear echoes of her idol Brandy’s velvet‑smooth delivery and Mary J. Blige’s raw honesty. But this isn’t mere homage; it’s Savage making the sound unequivocally her own.

Savage’s evolution has been constant. As one of Afrobeats’ leading voices she’s spent the last two decades opening doors for the next generation, and now she’s ready to claim the spotlight she helped build. Born in Lagos, Nigeria and raised in the UK from age eleven, and later educated in the US, Tiwa has navigated diverse cultures at every turn. This journey—marked by moments of isolation, reinvention, and unshakable resilience—infuses her music, allowing her to present herself on her terms for the very first time. Though she already boasts an MTV EMA, a MOBO Award, and a catalogue of genre‑defining hits—with Kele Kele Love, Koroba and Malo cemented as a generational touchstone—Savage’s reach extends far beyond awards.

Tiwa Savage has truly earned her title as the “Queen of Afrobeats.” With nearly three million monthly Spotify listeners, eighteen million Instagram followers, and a knack for forging powerful collaborations, her impact is undeniable. She’s penned Grammy nominated records for Beyonce’s The Lion King: The Gift, Fantasia, Babyface and sang backing vocals for Whitney Houston and George Michael. She’s collaborated with artists from Sam Smith and Chris Martin to Brandy, Nas, Wizkid, Davido, Craig David and Bob Marley. Few artists can claim to have performed at King Charles’s coronation concert or graced the digital cover of Billboard magazine. In 2024, Tiwa Savage expanded her creative horizons, making her acting and producing debut on Water & Garri, truly proving that her ambitions know no bounds.
