It’s never been in doubt that Rema is one of the most talented Afrobeats artists we’ve ever had. Time and again, he has proven his versatility and innovative mindset with every release, and his latest single, ‘Baby (Is it a Crime)’, is no exception. The Nigerian superstar has kickstarted his 2025 campaign with this brand-new track, arriving shortly after the 2025 Grammys, where he was nominated but didn’t secure a win.

Rema, however, isn’t letting that slow him down. Instead, he returns with an infectious and sonically rich offering that further cements his place at the top. ‘Baby (Is it a Crime)’ sees him effortlessly showcasing his range, proving once again that he can glide over any sound with ease. The track features a sample of Sade Adu’s timeless classic, ‘Is it a Crime,’ originally released in 1985, blending nostalgia with Rema’s contemporary Afrobeats sound.

Ever since Rema teased the track on social media, there has been a frenzy among fans, all eagerly anticipating its release. Now that it has finally dropped, the response has been electric. The song sees Rema pouring out his emotions, assuring his love interest that she’s the only one he desires. His smooth delivery and intimate lyricism shine through, as he serenades her with lines like: “Baby, baby sun moni, you know say you match my steeze, you know I’m a G, shawty ima always keep it real.”

With this release, Rema once again proves why he’s in a league of his own, he seamlessly blends Afrobeats, R&B, and nostalgia to create an infectious song. ‘Baby (Is it a Crime)’ is already shaping up to be another major hit in his ever-growing catalogue, setting the tone for what promises to be another remarkable year for the superstar.
