Winny Explores The Intricacies Of Love and Relationships in Masterful EP “Commercial Break”

Turning the heads of many worldwide, Afro-reggae trailblazer Winny has unveiled her highly anticipated EP Commercial Break. Fresh off the back of Lego, a dancefloor filler oozing with Winny’s artistic prowess, this body of work further emphasises her ability to create music that resonates with a multitude of cultures and ages across the globe – a testament to Winny’s determination to break boundaries in the industry and form a lasting community of supporters through unrivalled raw authenticity.
Documenting her twenty-something’s for all to hear, Winny navigates the intricacies of relationships, womanhood and the spontaneity of love in life. Reputed for cultivating a genre-bending sound that infuses elements of Reggae, R&B/Soul and Afro music into one, Commercial Break is an honest and candid memoir with boast-worthy features from Projexx and Thutmose.

Opening the EP with Picture Perfect a soft submergence harnessed with piano-led instrumentation, gospel vocals and a soulful ring, Winny sets the tone for what’s yet to arrive. Turning up the tempo in All Night, a seductive and hip-moving spin, we move swiftly into So Good alongside Projexx. Complimenting each other’s styles perfectly, So Good is a two-perspective love song exploring the infatuation with a fellow love interest. Encouraging listeners to get on there feet in 9-5, Lego, and Take Me alongside hit-maker Thutmose, Winny begins to close the EP with You (I Like) an infectious anthem that boasts her signature silky vocals and hypnotising melodies before the final track Utility Player. Underlined with an acoustic backdrop, Utility Player showcases Winny’s lyrical vulnerability amidst a dreamscape production. Set to mark another pivotal time in her career thus far, Commercial Break is without a doubt going to ruffle some industry feathers.

Speaking on the meaning behind the EP Winny explained,

Commercial Break is used as a metaphor. Each song represents fleeting moments of love, like commercial breaks in life where love interrupts the everyday routine. Love can come from unexpected connections and can be presented as spontaneous, catching people off guard in the middle of life’s “programming” much like a commercial break offering relief, a temporary escape from pain similar to a break during a tense show. Each track symbolises different stages or perspectives of love just like switching between channels from passion to distance, excitement to calmness capturing the idea that some loves are temporary, brief in the commercial breaks of life leaving a lasting impact even if they are short-lived.
